Nithish is an intern-turned-apprentice on the Compute team. He has worked on projects to improve tools for chemists, and is currently working with Software to develop new tools and workflows to help biologists, chemists, and data scientists do their job better. His interests lie at the intersection of data science, computer science, and biology.
Prior to Octant, Nithish graduated with a BS in Bioengineering: Bioinformatics from UC San Diego with a minor in Computer Music! Through his undergraduate years, Nithish worked in the Alexandrov Lab at the Moores Cancer Center on developing SigProfilerExtractor and SigProfilerAssignment: two utilities to better understand and deduce the impact of mutational processes on the cancer genome through the use of mutational signatures— patterned genomic scars found in cancer cells due processes like radiation and smoking. Nithish also worked at Zentalis, a publicly traded drug discovery company, where he applied the tools he developed in the Alexandrov Lab on real patient data.
Nithish loves programming (in Rust!), coffee, biking, playing video games, and playing a slew of instruments including the guitar, violin, and singing (although he is shy sometimes).
